Transit
The best thing about transit in Calgary is that your transit pass is paid for in your Student Union dues. To figure out the routes and times of service for any given area check the Calgary Transit Web Site.
The bus loop directly in front of the school is a stop location for four different bus routes. Click the link below to access a route map from the Calgary Transit site:
- Route 9: Varsity Acres/Bridgeland
- Route 19/119: 16th Ave. North
- Route 20: Heritage/Northmount
- Route 72/73: Circle Route
There are also dozens of busses that link with the C-Train giving you easy access to campus from University Station via transfer.
It is recommended if you are getting a house of campus and find a bus route that you think might provide the service you're looking for to contact Calgary Transit at 403-262-1000 to make sure the bus operates with regular frequency. There are a number of bus routes that operate in either the morning or the evening only which makes getting to and from school more difficult if you are stuck in an area with busses which only arrive during limited times.Parking
Most University of Calgary parking lots have waiting lists with an expected wait time ranging from 3-36 months depending on how close to campus they are. But, there are two options that are frequently utilized: the Art Parkade or McMahon Stadium Parking. You can get all the details at the Parking and Traffic Services website.
Art Parkade
The Art Parkade is connected to the Murray Fraser Building via Craigie Hall and +15s (that's Calgary slang for a heated walkway above ground). It has electric outlets and is a brief walk through heated buildings which, for some not used to a prairie winter, can be a lifesaver. It comes with a cost, though, of just over $400/semester.McMahon Stadium Parking
McMahaon is just about a ten minute walk from campus and there a numerous busses that drive in front of the Stadium which does allow you to catch a quick ride to comple your journey and at around $60 per month can provide some savings to those of you who don't mind the walk (or waiting for a bus).
